The SOHO Mail Server runs in the background and can run as a system service. It supports multiple mailboxes and users and has flexible and configurable header and envelope based routing for directing incoming email to appropriate mailboxes. Clients may use any preferred mail client that supports SMTP send and POP3 receive (Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Live Mail, Apple Mail etc).
The Mail Server can receive mail by acting as an SMTP gateway, allowing mail to be received directly from the internet. It can also connect to internet POP3 accounts periodically, to collect mail. Incoming mail is stored on the server machine until it can be delivered to the client for which it is intended.
Mail is sent out by the Mail Server when needed, either directly to the recipient's mail exchange (MX) server or to an upstream gateway or ISP.
